About Dr. Faizullah Syed and
The Syed Scholarship Foundation

Dr. Faizullah Syed was from a proud family in the SWAT Valley in Pakistan. He was so talented and smart and finished top honors at Pakistan medical school. Dr Syed came to the Alabama area around 2004 and fell in love with the Shoals area. He appreciated the beauty of the area and the wonderful families in Northwest Alabama. He initially enjoyed working the ER’s and priding himself on comforting patients and getting them answers. He started by working in the ER and outpatient office and admitted patients to the hospital. Many days staying up 36 hours straight. He would even let the on-call physicians sleep and notify them of their admissions in the morning.

In 2009, Dr. Syed created Shoals Primary Care. By 2012, he employed 17 physicians, 20 Nurse practitioners, 7 offices, and had over 100 total employees at Shoals Primary care. He was the first doctor to establish a multi-specialist clinic in North Alabama. Patients, staff and community leaders were drawn to his vision, confidence, and intelligence as well as his overall commitment to helping the people of the Shoals area.

Personally, Dr. Syed enjoyed cooking steak and lamb and having people over for dinner. He was extremely hospitable. He loved his children so much and loved being out on the river with them, snow skiing and taking family trips.

Although he is gone, his legacy will never be forgotten. It is because of his commitment to the Shoals area, medicine and continuing education that the Faizullah Syed Scholarship foundation would like to award scholarships to local high school seniors in his name. This great family man, friend, and physician will never be forgotten due to his hospitality, larger than life personality and serving nature. This new scholarship will help preserve his impact on the Shoals and beyond.
